Ilona Kickbusch (Switzerland)

 Ilona Kickbusch is the Director of the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. Her key interests relate to the political determinants of health, health in all policies and global health. She established the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies in Geneva. In this context, she advises countries on their global health strategies and trains health specialists and diplomats in global health diplomacy. She is a member of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board and the WHO High-Level Independent Commission on NCDS and is co-chair of UHC 2030. She acts as Council Chair to the World Health Summit in Berlin and has been involved in German G7 and G20 activities relating to global health and chairs the international advisory board for the development of the German global health strategy. She publishes widely and serves on various commissions and boards. She initiated the @wgh300 list of women leaders in global health and is program chair of the leaders in health network SCIANA. Professor Kickbusch has had a distinguished career with the World Health Organization. She was a key investigator of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion and WHOs Healthy Cities Network and has remained a leader in this field, most recently advising on the WHO activities related to Promoting Health in the SDGs. She was the director of the Global Health Division at Yale University School of Public Health and responsible for the first major Fulbright Programme on global health. She has recently been awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz) in recognition of her "invaluable contributions to innovation in governance for global health and global health diplomacy".

 


Don Nutbeam (Australia)

Don Nutbeam is a Professor of Public Health at the University of Sydney, and a Senior Advisor at the Sax Institute. He is a public health scientist with research interests in the social and behavioural determinants of health and the development and evaluation of public health interventions. His more recent research has been focussed on the development and testing of interventions to improve health literacy in different populations. He is widely published and cited on these subjects. His career has spanned positions in universities, government, health services and an independent health research institute. He has worked as an advisor and consultant on public health issues for the World Health Organization for over 30 years, and as consultant and team leader in health system capacity development projects for the World Bank.

 


Diane Levin-Zamir  (Israel)

Diane Levin-Zamir is Director of the National Department of Health Education and Promotion of Clalit, Israel's largest health service organization, an Associated Professor of Public Health at the School of Public Health of Haifa University and lecturer in health promotion at the Schools of Public Health of Tel Aviv University. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Tufts University in Boston, and earned a MPH and PhD from the Braun School of Public Health of Hadassah Hospital and Hebrew University’s Faculty of Medicine in Jerusalem. After serving in several leadership positions in the IUHPE, she co-leads and was one of the founding members of the Global Working Group on Health Literacy and serves on the editorial board of the Global Health Promotion Journal. She teaches health promotion planning, evaluation and health literacy in medical, public health and health professionals training frameworks. Diane Levin-Zamir specializes in action research in health promotion in community primary care, hospital and media settings, and a wide scope of activity in health literacy: practice, policy and research focusing on media and digital health literacy as well as cultural aspects of health literacy. She led the Israel National Health Literacy Survey, led the Israel involvement in the Diabetes Literacy Consortium of the EU, and represents Israel in the WHO Euro Action Network for measuring health literacy, as well as a scientific advisor to the Asian Health Literacy Association. She specializes in health promotion among special groups: children and adolescents, elderly, people with chronic conditions, and health promotion in multi-cultural settings, and is active in promoting comprehensive and sustainable health promotion implementation on national and local levels. Diane Levin-Zamir  has published extensively on various aspects of health literacy and health promotion. She is one of the founding members of the Israel Association of Health Promoters and Educators and is an active member of the National Council for Health Promotion of Israel's Ministry of Health. 

 


Jürgen M. Pelikan (Austria)

Jürgen M. Pelikan is emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Vienna / Austria and Director of the WHO-CC Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Care at the Austrian Public Health Institute (Gesundheit Österreich GmbH) in Vienna / Austria, and also Adjunct professor, Centre for Environment and Public Health, Griffith University, Brisbane / Australia. Together with Ilona Kickbusch and Helmut Brand he initiated the European Health Literacy Survey (HLS-EU) (2009-2012), where he was PI for comparative data analysis and reporting of results. In Austria he was directing studies on HL of adolescents, HL of two migrant groups and on defining and assessing organizational HL of hospitals. Since 2018 he is co-chairing an action network for Measuring Population and Organizational Health Literacy (M-POHL) within WHO-Europe´s European Health Indicator Initiative (EHII). He was a co-editor and co-author of WHO´s The Solid Facts: Health Literacy (2013). He is a member of the core group of the GWG Health Literacy of IUHPE, a member of the scientific advisory board of Asian Health Literacy Association (AHLA) and a member of the executive board of the International Health Literacy Association (IHLA). Besides his interest in defining and measuring health literacy in general populations and developing Health Literate Organizations his recent research interests include theory of health (salutogenesis), health promotion, the settings approach especially in health care settings, sustainable hospitals, self-help-friendly hospitals, and applying systems theory in health care organizations.

 


Kristine Sørensen (Denmark)

Kristine Sørensen is committed to advance the global scale and scope of health literacy. She is the founder of the Global Health Literacy Academy and advisor for international organizations such as i.e. the European Commission, the World Health Organization and McKinsey. She is the executive chair of Health Literacy Europe and president of the International Health Literacy Association.

Stephan Van den Broucke (Belgium)

Stephan Van den Broucke is Professor of Public Health Psychology at the Psychological Sciences Research Institute and the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. He formerly held the positions of senior expert at the Flemish Institute for Health Promotion (Belgium), project officer at the Executive Agency for Health and Consumers of the European Commission, and Associate Professor at the Department of International Health of Maastricht University (Netherlands). His main research and teaching interest include preventive health behavior change, health promotion planning and evaluation, self-management education for chronic disease, health literacy, and public health capacity building. He participated as principal investigator in several large scale international projects, including the European Health Literacy Survey (HLS-EU), Reviewing Public Health capacities in Europe, Action-For-Health, and IC-Health, and coordinated the EU Diabetes Literacy project. He has been an evaluator for research proposals submitted to ZON-MW (Netherlands), the German Federal Ministry of Research, the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Portugal), the Israel Science Foundation, the Hong Kong Healthcare and Promotion Fund, and the Kuwait Research Foundation, and serves regularly as an advisor for the European Commission and the World Health Organization. Stephan is an Executive Board Member of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (UHPE), Advisory Board Member of the Asian Health Literacy Association, and President of the Well Done Health Literacy Awards. He is an associate editor of Health Promotion International and editorial board member of Archives of Public Health and Journal of Public Health Research.


Nationale Keynote-Speaker

Doris Schaeffer

Prof. Dr. Doris Schaeffer ist Sprecherin des Projektes „Nationaler Aktionsplan Gesundheitskompetenz". Sie ist von Haus aus Sozial- und Erziehungswissenschaftlerin und als Professorin an der Fakultät für Gesundheitswissenschaften der Universität Bielefeld tätig. Zugleich ist sie Direktorin des Instituts für Pflegewissenschaft an der Universität Bielefeld und Senior Fellow an der Hertie School of Governance.  Wichtige Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen auf dem Gebiet der nutzerzentrierten Versorgung und Pflege – besonders bei chronischer Krankheit und im Alter –  sowie der Gesundheitskompetenz, Patienteninformation und Empowerment. Sie hat kürzlich eine Studie zur Gesundheitskompetenz der Bevölkerung in Deutschland (HLS-GER) sowie eine weitere Untersuchung zur Gesundheitskompetenz vulnerabler Bevölkerungsgruppen in NRW (HLS-NRW) abgeschlossen und bereitet aktuell weitere Studien zum Thema vor. Gemeinsam mit Prof. Dr. Ullrich Bauer arbeitet sie aktuell an der Universität Bielefeld an der Gründung eines interdisziplinären Zentrums für Gesundheitskompetenzforschung.  Schließlich ist sie Mitglied des 2018 gegründeten EHII Action Network on Measuring Population and Organizational Health Literacy (M-POHL).

 


Ullrich Bauer

Prof. Dr. Ullrich Bauer ist Professor für Sozialisationsforschung an der Fakultät für Erziehungswissenschaft und Leiter des Zentrums für Prävention und Intervention im Kindes- und Jugendalter der Universität Bielefeld. Seine Forschung konzentriert sich besonders auf das Thema gesundheitsbezogene Sozialisation und Bildungsprozesse mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf vulnerablen Gruppen mit begrenzten Ressourcen. In früheren Projekten widmete er sich der Primärprävention von Kindern psychisch kranker Eltern (Kanu Projekt), Bildungskarrieren von Jugendlichen aus benachteiligten Bevölkerungsschichten (HABIL Projekt) und Schulprogrammen zur Prävention von sexuellem Missbrauch von Kindern (Igel Projekt). Prof. Bauer leitet das „Health Literacy in Childhood and Adolescence as a Target for Health Promotion and Primary Prevention" Konsortium.

 


Susanne Jordan

Dipl.-Sozialwirtin Susanne Jordan, MPH, ist stellvertretende Leiterin des Fachgebiets 27 „Gesundheitsverhalten“ des Robert Koch-Instituts (RKI) und hat im Bereich Prävention und Gesundheitsförderung vielfältige berufliche Erfahrung in Forschung und Praxis. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Gesundheitskompetenz, Inanspruchnahme von präventiven Leistungen und Gesundheitsförderung und partizipative Gesundheitsforschung. Sie leitet das BMBF-Projekt „Messung der Gesundheitskompetenz von Jugendlichen“ (MOHLAA) und verschiedene Vorhaben zur Erfassung von Gesundheitskompetenz auf Bevölkerungsebene mit Daten des RKI.

 


Marie-Luise Dierks

Prof. Dr. Marie-Luise Dierks ist Leiterin des Arbeitsschwerpunkts Patientenorientierung und Gesundheitsbildung an der Abteilung Epidemiologie, Sozialmedizin und Gesundheitssystemforschung, Leiterin der ersten deutschen Patientenuniversität und Leiterin des Ergänzungsstudiengangs Bevölkerungsmedizin und Gesundheitswesen (Public Health) am Zentrum für Öffentliche Gesundheitspflege der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf den Themen: Patientenperspektive, Empowerment und Gesundheitskompetenz, Patientenzufriedenheit, Patientenberatung und -information, den neuen Medien und im Bereich Selbsthilfegruppen und Selbstmanagement bei chronischer Erkrankung. Sie ist Mitglied im nationalen Netzwerk Gesundheitskompetenz.
